This Week

This Week

1. It was hot. HOT. Almost 30 degrees. That’s the melting point for arctic people. But the trees have full leaves now.

2. I didn’t feel like going outside much, so instead I cleaned like crazy. I don’t think our home has ever been this clean. I also made a new cover for my extremely ratty chair. So much better.

3. I did venture outside to see if I could find something to wear in the heat and manage to score this dress for 4€. It’s black with white polka dots and is both light and cute ( I think).

4. I also bought this curtain for 1,20 and promptly made it into a few summery pillows.

5. I also bought these candle holders. I think they are handmade. They were an odd blue green color, but only cost 1€ each. Few coats of paint and some beads later, they are looking much fresher. And my Yankee Candles fit perfectly in them.

6. We didn’t have any food and didn’t feel like going to the store. Hot, I tell you. So, Jake made spaghetti with minced meat sauce, and I ate it. I’ve been vegetarian since I was sixteen, but I guess not anymore. I feel like I should apologize to someone. So. Sorry!

A Small Thrift Haul

Fotor050923437

I thought I’d share a few things I’ve bought lately from the thrift store. Sometimes you find stuff, sometimes you don’t. I really like the Red Cross second hand shop, because everything is neatly organized by category, clean and they test all the electronics, so you know they’ll work.

1. Patterned porcelain cups. I was already leaving when they brought in more mugs. Mmm, mugs. 40 cents each, and super cute.

2. Fabrics. I don’t know what I will do with these, but I’ll figure something out. The polka dot one was 1,90€, the floral 2,90, the striped one 0,80 and the plaid 1,80.

3. A big glass jar for 1,50.

4. A Christmas mug for 0,10. Jake insists that I must not buy anymore mugs. Mmm, mugs.

5. A basket for 0,40. I think it’s meant for a plant since it’s lined with plastic. For now I keep my crochet hooks and knitting needles in it.

This Week

this week

1. It’s actually hot and all the trees have pushed out tiny leaves. I should mention that if the temperature get’s above 20 degrees in Finland, its tabloid news. So “hot” might be a relative term.

2. I’ve been sitting on a gift card since last autumn. I really wanted to spend it on something meaningful and finally decided that I needed new trainers. I went for these Merrell Pace Glove ones. They are one of those “barefoot” type of trainers, that are supposed to be more natural. I don’t know. They do feel a bit funny when you are standing, like your heel is sinking in to the ground, but when walking they feel completely normal to me. Maybe the difference is more noticeable if you run?

3. The second purchase of the month was… Intuos Pen & Touch! I’ve wanted a drawing tablet for so long, and finally decided that if I want it, why not save for a few months and buy one? So, I did. I absolutely love it. I think once I learn to use it, I might like it better than pen and paper.

4. Jake’s cousin lend us a puzzle, and I happily spent a few days doing that. I love puzzles.

5. The craft project of the week were these hand bowls. Tutorial from A Beautiful Mess. I didn’t paint them yet, and they look kind of nice in white. The left one is moulded after my hand and the right one after Jake's. I think they might look nice on our night stands.

6. And Jake bought me flowers! (for the first time ever) They are so pretty, and I love potted plants. It looks a bit heart shaped in the picture, too, hah.

This Week - On Organizing Kick

This Week

A little different kinds of pictures this week. I’ve been organizing a lot lately. It all started when I found a metallic plate organizer at the flea market for 80 cents (you might be able to see it in the second picture).

1. My kitchen cupboard before organizing, everything was thrown in every which way. It was a pain to try find anything.

2. So different. I moved some rarely used stuff away, like the big thermos. I put the plate organizer on the second self to organize the frying pans. Teflon on top and cast iron below. Kettles are behind them. I put colanders on the top shelf, with some baking stuff behind those. Oven dishes are on the third shelf and all appliances, that we don’t have out, on the bottom shelf.  I also added the hanging basket for lids and a basket on the bottom self for all the small parts. Both I already had, so organizing this cabinet cost pretty much 80 cents. It’s so much nicer to look at and easier to get things.

3. and 4. A new shop called Hong Kong opened here a few weeks back, and they have super cheap containers. The small ones cost only 25 cents! I just love opening my desk drawers now. It’s somehow very calming to have everything on exact places.

5. And lastly, I organized my bookshelf. It used to host a lot of binders and sketch books and random stuff and looked messy and depressing. I was just going to organise this bookshelf, but ended up pulling pretty much everything from our closet/storage room on the floor too. The mess was a bit overwhelming, but I’m glad I did it, because now that it is more or less organized, too. (Though, there still are several boxes I didn’t have energy to look into) I moved everything I don’t use every week to the closet and moved most of my craft supplies here, where they are actually easy to grab. My craft room/office is now much more neater and lighter, with the white baskets and neat lines. The white baskets hold yarns, sorted by type. One basket holds projects I’m currently doing, another one some fabrics etc. Knowing where everything is really makes all the difference.

Sorry, about the pictures being so dark, it’s been unbelievably foggy for a few days.

This Week

this week

1. Nothing much to report this week, except the bruise on my foot is almost gone, so I decided I could start taking walks again. It’s been great! Mmm, fresh air! There’s some really nice paths in the near by woods, which during the winter are reserved for skiers only, but now that the snow is gone are free for pedestrians too. I’m terrified of snakes, but Jake claims there are none here, because the hedgehogs have eaten them all.

2. While indoors, I’ve been playing Super Mario 3D World. It’s so fun! I love the cat suit. I want the cat suit.

3. I didn’t have any other pictures so I thought I’d talk about a few products I’ve been loving recently. I started to use conditioner first and shampoo last, because apparently that’s supposed to be good? I don’t know, but I’m testing. I’ve been using XZ chocolate vanilla mask as a conditioner. I have a very dry, extremely tangly hair and this has smoothed out all the tangles and left it soft.

4. For shampoo I’ve been using this deep cleansing shampoo by Herbina  and it’s so good. It leaves my hair very clean, but not dry. I’ve been loving in especially after sauna. If you buy one beauty product in Finland, this should be it.

5. And last, but not least! I’ve been absolutely loving this Greek salad dressing by Felix! I think I should clarify after mentioning a few hair products that I’ve been using this on my salad. It’s delicious, and pretty much the only one I eat. There was a small moment of sadness yesterday when our grocery store was all out, and I had to take a garlic one instead.

That’s me, how about you?
