It feels like nothing happened in January. Nothing. Winter is for sure my least favorite season, the days seem so cold and long and blah. And there's at least three more months of this!
Don't let the Winter Wonderland like picture to fool you. It's cold and miserable. I've tried to bundle up and go outside everyday anyway.
We lost electricity one night. Of course, it had to be on the coldest night too. It was -33° and we were slightly worried we might freeze to death. It only lasted for an hour, but we didn't know it at the time. We spend the time watching two episodes of the Office on Jake's phone. Because if you are freezing to death you should have some fun too.
I started making kombucha. Look, it's alive! I think I'll make a proper post about it, once I get the hang of it. The story so far: first batch fizzy and OK, second batch horrible, third batch currently brewing with fingers crossed. I have a slight problem in that I don't actually know how it's supposed to taste like... So, I'm just winging it and hoping I'm not poisoning myself.
And that's it. Sorry for a downer post, but some months are like this.

I thought I'd share something I've used since I started crocheting. This is ridiculously simple, but I'll share anyway.
If you need a stitch marker (and let's face it, if you crochet something that involves counting, you do) use a hair pin!
Just a regular hair pin. It works perfectly.
- It's easy to place
- It's easy to remove
- It stays put
- It's lies flat so it doesn't get in your way
- It's cheap
- And you likely own one already!
Obviously, this works for knitting as well!
