Magic Ring

I've been making amigurumis for... a year, maybe? I forget.

But I only now managed to try starting with a magic ring. And it's so much better!

With chain 2 start, while it's easy, there sometimes remains a sort of bulging chain. If you use the chain two you probably now what I mean.

But with magic ring the first round is all smooth and pretty. No bulging. Here is a great tutorial.

I'm not going to change my previous patterns (lazy!), but when it's mentioned to start with "chain 2", you can of course start with magic ring. In fact, I recommend it.

Butterfly Magnets

My Internet connection was cut from Thursday evening until yesterday. A computer without Internet is so sad. What do you do with it?

I have no TV, but instead spend my days sitting in front of my laptop. Without Internet what do I do? I sit in front of the computer and wait for the Internet connection to come back. So sad.

More magnets:

Give Me Five

I found this blog today, and thought I'd give it a try. The idea is to make a list of five things on different topics given each Monday. Even tough it's not Monday today, here is one list of five things.

Five favourite things about fall:

1. Rain. I love love love rain, and it does not rain enough in here...

2. Darkness. I have huge trouble sleeping as it is and living in the land of white nights does not help. It always relief when autumn comes and the nights become dark. I sleep so much better.

3. Coldness. I'm an arctic creature, I don't really like heat.

4. Clothes. I think autumn is the perfect season clothes wise. In the summer you're sweaty and have to try to wear the least amount of clothes while remaining decent. In the winter you have to wrap so many layers on you, it's hard look like anything other than a padded ball. Autumn is just right.

5. My birthday. It is becoming increasingly hard to face as I grow older. But I'm still glad I was born.

Scare Crow

Hahaha, I had no idea that talitiainen was blue tit in English. That's pretty funny.

Anyway, my balcony is infested with them. I'm not sure why, but they especially seem to like the thuya I have in there. It was ok though, until I found one dead on the floor. Now, every time I see one of them standing on the railing I'm terrified it'll fly to the window.

In Finland we don't celebrate Halloween, but it did give me an idea. Tadaa!

I can't remember where I found the pattern exactly, but if you Google "raven silhouette" or similar, it gives a lot of results. I cut it out of black sponge rubber and attached it to the window.

I haven't seen any blue tits since. Heh.

Amigurumi Onigiri

It's been awhile since I last posted a pattern.

I've never tasted onigiri, but would like to. In the meanwhile here is a crocheted version.

066

I tried to write as clearly as possible, but if you have any questions, please ask.

Because of the triangular shape, sc inc would be insufficient, and instead the increases are done crocheting 4 sc in to a sc.

PATTERN

Chain 2 in white.

  1. In to the second ch from the hook sc 6.
  2. Sc inc around (12).
  3. *Sc in the next sc 4 times, sc in the next 3* twice, 4 sc in the next, sc in the next 5 (21).
  4. *Sc in the next sc 4 times, sc in the next 6* twice, 4 sc in the next, sc in the next 8 (30).
  5. *Sc in the next sc 4 times, sc in the next 9* twice, 4 sc in the next, sc in the next 11 (39).
  6. *Sc in the next sc 4 times, sc in the next 12* twice, 4 sc in the next, sc in the next 14 (48).
  7. *Sc in the next sc 4 times, sc in the next 15* three times(57).

Finish off. Make two.

Chain 57 in white, join with a slip stitch.

  1. Sc around
  2. Sc around.
  3. Sc around.

Join in to the back loops of the edge of the first triangle, and then on to the second triangle, matching the corners carefully. I suggest you start from the middle of one edge of the triangles, this way you can hide it under the nori part.

Chain 10 in black or dark green (I used black). Sc in to second hook from the hook and across (9). Turn. Sc 28 rows like this. Finish of and sew on to the onigiri.

As always, you could sew on a cute face;)
